The Rescues - Can't Stand The Rain

Quirky song, but it really caught my attention. What do you think?

On Repeat: Gomez - "A New Tide"

I've been following the band Gomez since they "arrived" in the late 90's and I remember a concert of theirs at Slim's in San Francisco. I saw them perform songs from their first album and they ended the show with an amazing cover of the Talking Heads "Road to Nowhere". Yeah, that pretty much sealed the deal for me. I even had a chance to meet them, since I was working at SF station KFOG at the time. Nice guys, from what I remember.

It's been over 10 years since that first concert and they still pump out really worthy music. Their latest album, A New Tide doesn't disappoint. I have always loved the earthy tone of lead singer Ian Ball. The single gaining much attention is "Airstream Driver" and in a recent article out of SXSW, the drummer Olly Peacock talks about the writing process for that song.

'The lyrics for 'Airstream Driver' were actually pieced together,' Peacock says. "I'd written the song at home and I took it to the studio when we were working late at night. I needed some words, so we Googled 'Red Red Meat,' because we were working (producer) Brian Deck, who used to be in Red Red Meat. We thought just for a joke we'd take some lyrics and use them just for the time being, and in the end they were just so befitting we kept them. That was an interesting way to do a collaboration – without someone actually wanting to collaborate. The lyrics are totally obscure to others, but they fit. It was an interesting lyrical excursion.'

Check out "Airstream Driver" and another one of my favorites, "Little Pieces" and let me know what you think!

FM BELFAST - Synthia

Synthesizer heavy, but I really like song. The band says, this song is "about a poorly treated keyboard". Enjoy!

Make a Circuit with Me - The Polecats

This song made me happy today.

On a side note, I'm so not loving blip.fm these days. What's up with their lack of songs? Either that, or I'm just really uncool.

The Weepies - Hideaway

I'm very much enjoying their latest album. It's funny how where you listen, can change the mood or experience. The first time I listened to it was at work, and maybe the stress and constant distraction didn't allow me to fully appreciate what I was listening to. While I thought it was pleasant, I had a feeling of boredom.

On second listen (a few weeks later) I was home and late in the evening.  I remember folding my laundry and really listening this time. Long gone were the stress of my desk and workplace. Fast asleep were both Tom and Jango, as I was alone in the living room. All of a sudden the music overcame me and finally I understood.

This album is beautiful. Enjoy these samples!

Music on repeat - Emiliana Torrini

I couldn't place it, but something about her voice reminded me of another singer. After reading her bio and learning of her Icelandic heritage, it totally hit me. Her singing reminds me of Bjork!

Other facts (from Wikipedia):
-she sings "Gollam Song" at the end of LOTR: The Two Towers
-she co-wrote a Kylie Minogue hit called "Slow"
-she was a member of Gus Gus
-She's toured with Moby, Sting, Dido, Travis, Trickey and Adem

I'm lovin' her latest album Me and Armini.

"1963" - Rachel Yamagata

It took my forever to get into Rachel Yamagata. Not sure why, but thank goodness for social networking sites! Someone on LaLa recommended this song by Rachel and the rest (as they say) was history. Last year I downloaded "Letter Read" as a free iTunes sample, and I'll admit I didn't like that song. So I didn't bother to hear the rest of the album, till now. I still don't really like "Letter Read", by the way.

But I love the rest of the album, especially this song, which is a little more upbeat than the rest (titled "Happenstance"). Her new album is out now and it's called "Elephants...Teeth Sinking Into Heart", and from what I've heard, it's also really good.

Enjoy!

I'm based in the Bay Area and I make videos that either go on TV or the web. Currently, I work at Revision3.

I believe I am addicted to the internet.

I like dark chocolate, red wine, pop music, good food, my dog Jango and *shocking* some reality TV shows.

I will never apologize for these interests, or force you to like them too.
